They said it would get dark. They weren’t wrong.
I’ve had a hard time putting this week’s letter together. Send cat videos.
The execution of ICU Nurse Alex Pretti on Saturday morning, some are saying is a turning point. (Kara Swisher of the Pivot podcast, I’m looking at you.) I hope they’re right. But Cincinnati is bracing for our own surge, particularly in Springfield in February.
This week’s literal icy conditions have us indoors a lot, regrouping, attending online trainings. Bridge demonstrations are being watched on a case by case basis due to dangerous temperatures.
We have a big chunk of new subscribers this week, so I gotta give a shoutout to all my resisters who were in the streets last week. Monday at Hoffner Park honored Renee Good.
The Hoffner team is taking a break this week but encourages you to contact your representatives to stop the madness!
Tuesday, a large team of core bridgeadiers and some new folks gathered at our First Bridge: Ridge at Tesla.
Thursday, we had three bridge events, on Monmouth, Montgomery and back at Harrison!
Harrison was still a bit hostile, but we won’t quit.
Friday we were at our regular battle stations on Deerfield...
...and Wyoming
And on a chilly Saturday with a blizzard looming, Dave and Bev got on the Tesla bridge for Alex Pretti.
This week, the schedule is a LOT lighter, mostly because of the cold. But trust....we’re not going anywhere.
MONDAY JANUARY 26
The Hoffner Park is staying home and calling Congress this week. We all encourage everyone to follow their lead.
There is a Civics Meeting later today at 6pm at Payne Chapel AME Church in Hamilton.
And because the majority of the nation is recovering from the Winter Storm, the Women’s March and No Kings are having back to back virtual trainings tonight.
TUESDAY JANUARY 27
Red Wine and Blue Cincinnati is having a Letters of Love Transform event Tuesday night.
There’s also a Red Wine and Blue zoom Tuesday night at 7:30 on The Psychology of Radicalization.
Braver Angels is having a Coffee Conversation at the Winton Panera again at 10am Tuesday. The topic of this one: Should the executive branch have more control over the fed?
WEDNESDAY JANUARY 28
Immigrant Dignity Coalition will be meeting at 6:30 at Mt Auburn Presbyterian. You can also join on zoom.
If you’re on the Eastside, Clermont County organizers are hosting a vigil for Alex Pretti Wednesday night.
States at the Core are hosting another nationwide ICEWatch zoom. I’m told the Sunday event was endlessly helpful. This one starts at 7pm.
Finally, LaborForce is having a Zoom with Amazon organizers at 6pm. Wednesday really is the night to Zoom!

This Friday is also the last week for the PRECINCT PROJECT. Precinct Executives are NEEDED, if you’ve ever thought of getting involved politically - this is the time!
The Butler Co Dems are having a Winter Warmup party Friday night. The cost is $35pp, starts 7pm at Colligan Lodge in Hamilton.
Clermont Co Brewing Change Coffee Klatch will be at it as always, Friday at 4pm.

The EastGater’s are BACK AT IT hosting another ICE OUT FOR GOOD demonstration on Sunday. I was at the first one and the level of middle fingers in that area really does rival the Harrison bridge. If there’s anyone that needs to hear us...it’s the red zones.
Reminder: There’s a super cute dessert shop inside the mall called Oliver’s Desserts (Right next to Auntie Anne’s pretzels) that serves HOT hot chocolate in the most adorable way. Maybe pick yourself up a cup before headed to the cold.

MUST WATCH OF THE WEEK
It’s been a minute since I gave y’all a little Ezra Klein, hasn’t it? Last week, he tackled the topic of immigration, interviewing The Atlantic‘s Caitlin Dickerson on her unwavering research into Immigration Enforcement: what it looked like during the Biden administration and the monster it’s become now since the Big Bill.
When I tell you this came out before the killing of Alex Pretti, that makes it all the more prescient. Lots of good stuff here.
