My grandparents didn’t actually fight fascism. I forget the medical reason Bob Nocks was turned away from military service, but two of his brothers fought in World War II and one of them, Emery Lee, gave his life in a submarine during the biggest conflict the world has ever seen. Now, in our hometown of Aurora, Indiana, the VFW post is named after him.

I think of him every Memorial Day. But I think of his brother Jackie too, who came back from the war with a lot of demons and did not live long thereafter. I think of my father, who served in the Navy for 20 years to pay for medical care for my disabled brother. My father is still alive, but I remember sitting in the middle school cafeteria in 1990 when Operation Desert Storm was announced, worrying about the future. And about why we were going to war in the first place.

35 years later and we’re still fighting those battles. I don’t know about you, but I’d like it to stop. It’s only one of the reasons I’m on the streets with you guys. And I’ll keep turning up.

This week we were mostly back to our normal schedule (while a small wrench thrown in when the Vice President decided to come home for the weekend).

The Montgomery crew spread to two bridges last week and Monmouth had a really healthy turnout, thanks to Mike’s appearance on the CCA Pod People podcast.

A few of us gathered at the North Central library to watch Suuzz in action demonstrating her dropcloth banner process. It was surprisingly cathartic, painting like that. Can’t wait to make my own.

And Friday Dave headed up Deerfield Rd.

Later that night, we were gaming it up on a rainy night at Matt’s house. Congrats to the twins for winning...whatever that game was we were playing. It was fun, though.

Saturday we started off at Tesla

And closed out the day at JD’s!

And were back on it yesterday as well, never missing an opportunity to remind the VP who he’s really working for.

TUESDAY MAY 26

Tuesday night the second part of the Downtown NonViolent training sessions will be on at the Downtown Library Room 3 South E at 5pm

And Braver Angels is having a coffee conversation at 10am at the Winton Panera.

WEDNESDAY MAY 27

The Harrison Bridge team will be out Wednesday at 4:45pm

The Butler Co Dems will be having a social gathering Weds at Grainworks in West Chester at 6pm

And if you’re up for a drive to Columbus, there’s a special Clothing Not Crime demonstration at 4pm at the Ohio Statehouse Wednesday.

THURSDAY MAY 28

Thursday is a three bridge day this week! First, on Montgomery...

And Monmouth!

But the Clough Pike Bridgeadiers are returning to the East Side from 2:30 - 4:30 - Park at the LDS Church, 700 Clough Pike.

There is also a Red Wine and Blue event at Fine Wine O’Clock on Thursday.

And again, it’s in Columbus but there’s also a Great Climate Lobby Day at the Ohio Statehouse.

Or if you feel like staying home, the Good Trouble Lives On movement is having a virtual training session to prepare for their National Weekend of Action from July 17 - 19.

FRIDAY MAY 29

We’ll be back on the bridges Friday Morning!

Clermont Co Brewing Change Coffee Klatch will be as it always is, Friday at 4pm. They’ll have Data Center petitions, so if you haven’t signed - get on out there!

And there’s another Red Wine and Blue social event on Friday, this time a coffee conversation at Adesso Spirits in Mason.

SATURDAY MAY 30

Saturday we’re having our own coffee date at Moonflower at 9am before Tesla.

The Tesla crew will be out as usual Saturday at 11am on Ridge - park at Jack in the Box.

Saturday is another FULL DAY training for NonViolence. This week they’ll be in Liberty Township at the Midpoint Library starting at 10am.

The Working Families Party is having a welcome gathering from 1 - 3pm at Braxton Brewing.

I have not heard word that the singing demonstration has stopped, so I’m assuming they’re still going at Fountain Square at 3pm! If you’ve been to this event, let me know how they’re going!

SUNDAY MAY 31

Sunday come on out to Plainfield for a nice bridge demonstration!

This week is also the last Sunday of the month - you know what that means! It’s Potluck time at Piatt Park. We’ll be down there with coffee...and something, haven’t decided what hot food we’re bringing yet.

Giff will also be out canvassing with Ground Truth in Norwood, it’s a great way to wet your feet for campaign season.

And there’s no flyer yet, but a large coalition of people are starting a series of demonstrations at Reds Stadium for Sunday home games, this Sunday is the first one at 12:30 outside the Great American Ballpark.

Listen, I’ve been bad about getting this newsletter out in time for the stalwarts at Hoffner Park. I don’t want them to think I’ve forgotten about them. They’re out every week at 4pm. Here’s this week’s flyer, Al makes a new one every week. Definitely the team to hang with.
